Please join us as we celebrate our loved ones who have passed away and embrace the grief journey together through spoken encouragement, music, candle lighting, desserts, drinks, and companionship. Because of weather, we will be INSIDE this year. Feel free to bring a photo of your loved one. ALL are welcome (you need not have had your loved one served here by us at McComas Family Funeral Homes)

Thank you to all who came out to celebrate our 5 year anniversary at McComas Celebration of Life Center being a part of the Jarrettsville community and beyond! We were so grateful to welcome so many of our McComas team (especially the 4-legged variety!) and our neighbors to our campus, including our newly revamped McComas Pet Celebration of Life.
The food from one of our catering partner Acappella was delicious and artfully displayed and another partner, Jarrettsville Creamery generously donated cookies to congratulate us! Thank you for coming to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
The clouds and rain did not keep away our brave blood donors who cam out to give the gift of life. Because of their efforts, we helped save the lives of 51 people in and around our community. Thank you for your willingness! We are looking to have our next drive in July if you would like to come out and join us to do the good that we can.

Happy Valentine's Day! We were able to celebrate love and support in Jarrettsville this past Sunday at our second annual widows and widowers Valentine's luncheon. About 25 widows gathered together to eat, share stories, and be encouraged by our Doug Restrick that none of us go it alone. Friends from last year and new friends from this year chatted and laughed and enjoyed a lunch catered by Sunny Day and an ice cream bar from Jarrettsville Creamery. Each of our guests left with a scented candle to keep the light going. We are thankful for this opportunity to share love with our community."
We came together as a family and a community to help Breathe 379 collect NEW toys for children between the ages of infant through 17 years old, NEW red 18" Stockings, NEW Stocking Stuffers, and NEW sets of PJ's. Together we spread the joy of Christmas. Thank you for your help.
Our community is filled with grieving hearts as we remember our loved ones who have passed away over the last few years. It is important that we come together as a community to support each other during these difficult times when so many have not had the opportunity to grieve collectively.
We would like to invite you to a Forever in Our Hearts Gathering on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 6:30 pm to 7:30pm at our Bel Air location of McComas Family Funeral Homes. This outdoor gathering will provide a safe and comfortable space for us to come together and honor the memory of those we have lost through words of welcome, a message of comfort from Doug Restrick, candle lighting and music from Siblings' Sounds. There will be warm drinks and sweet treats, firepits and hopefully fellowship and healing.
We understand that losing someone you love is never easy, but we believe that by coming together in remembrance, we can find peace and comfort in each other. We hope to see you there.
This is no trick...it was a treat to have all the donors who came to the McComas Celebration of Life Center in Jarrettsville to help give the gift of life by making a blood donation. Some came dressed for Halloween, but all helped to supply the need within our community and beyond. Because of these efforts, we helped save the lives of 84 people!

Appointments available soon.
Good company and much needed comfort was given to all who turned out for a very successful Valentine's luncheon on February 12 for widows and widowers in our community. Our guests were met with welcome from Howard IV, Melissa, and Amy. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch from Acappella, our catering partner and locally-owned family restaurant. Garrett Tollenger, guest speaker from GriefShare and Compassionate Friends, gave excellent suggestions for navigating grief and life after losing a spouse and offered hope and helpful resources to all in attendance. Everyone made new connections and were offered Jarrettsville Creamery cookies and a hope of spring flowerpot takeaway with Forget-Me-Not seeds to plant. We are hopeful to continue to grow these relationships and are grateful for all who came out.
This January, we made the rounds to give back to those who give so much to us and our community. Missie and Amy got to 'go bananas' bringing delicious pretzels (from the Pretzel Lady) and fruit bowls to 10 of our nursing home and hospice care facilities in the area. We also have gotten to back the blue who we so much appreciate by bringing lunch to the Harford County Sheriff's Offices and Town of Bel Air Police--Jarrettsville Creamery for Northern Precinct and Sunny Day for Southern Precinct, Main Precinct and Town of Bel Air police. Our hope is to keep encouraging those who do so much for all of us. May the joy keep going in 2023!
During the month of December we collected unwrapped toys in all three of our locations to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Harford and Cecil Counties. When our guys pulled up to their headquarters with a truck filled with gifts of all kinds for children of all ages, the children were so excited. Thank you to all who gave so generously to bless those less fortunate in our community so they could enjoy a wonder-filled Christmas
Because of your generosity, we were able to help stock the supply closet at Harford Family House which has been providing housing, support and resources to families with children in Harford County since 1989. Over the years, Harford Family House has helped more than 2,000 people in more than 700 families. Harford Family House assists families with children and unaccompanied adults achieve independence through housing, support and resources dedicated to improving the financial stability and mental well-being of its clients experiencing homelessness. Thank you again for your generosity—it really does make a difference!
In order to shine the light of hope and show our support for our veterans, we lit all three of our locations in green and collected supplies for Perry Point Veterans Administration Medical Center. The donations of books, art supplies and toiletries for our veterans were much appreciated. Thank you to all who donated.
Despite the rain and cold, our donors showed out strong for another successful Red Cross Blood Drive. Held in our McComas Celebration of Life Center, we all came together to help save loves in our community and beyond. We much appreciate the selfless sacrifice of so many blood donors. Thank you!
McComas Family Funeral Home partnered with Breathe 379 to give toys and pajamas and stockings for children in need in our community. Thank you to all who contributed in any of our three locations. Let's keep spreading hope together in 2022!
Thank you to so many of our staff, friends, families, and members of our community for making the YMCA Turkey Trot such a success this Thanksgiving in downtown Bel Air. McComas Family Funeral Homes has partnered with the YMCA for many years to sponsor this awesome show of support for the work they do in our community. Hundreds of runners, trotters, and walkers took on the 5K course beginning at our Bel Air funeral home. Lots of merriment was had on this beautiful morning to kick off the holiday season. Thank you to all who came out and to those who helped sponsor from afar!
For the month of October, all of our locations were donned with pink in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. Then in November, some of our staff grew facial hair which has become the symbol of raising awareness for men's health in general. Here's to hope for good health for all!
A big thank you to all who came out to make our Bel Air Open House so successful! Many guests from our local and state governments, from our community, and from our staff came out for a wonderful evening Wednesday, October 6. Delicious food was provided by our Bel Air catering partner, Liberatore's. Guests ate and drank to the awesome tunes provided by Nothin' Ta Plunder while tours of our newly renovated building and the crematory took place. A great night was had by all! Thank you all again!
McComas Family Funeral Homes was happy to sponsor our local Catholic high school's fundraiser. Many came out to enjoy the beautiful scenery and help our students.
McComas Family Funeral Homes has sent volunteers and funds to benefit the Sunflower Fund which gives financial assistance to those in need within our community and beyond.
McComas Family Funeral Homes sponsored the 9th Annual Catch a Pig Race to support the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County. On Sunday, August 29, race participants gathered on a cool morning in downtown Bel Air around the corner from our Bel Air location to run a 5K on the Ma and Pa trail. Little 'piglets' dressed in pink ran alongside wolves, pigs, and assorted other runners and strollers. A great time was had by all!
A beautiful day was had by all in sunny Jarrettsville! So many grateful fathers and community members came out to fabulous food provided by JD's House of Bacon. Lots of folks grabbed their food and drink and enjoyed them on the patio or in the Celebration Room. Some new friends were made around tables and some older ones came out to be together. AND! We raised nearly $350 for the Sunflower Fund which helps local families in need, contributes to Boy Scout projects, and helps local schools. Many Jarrettsville businesses contributed to the event and all were grateful to the McComas family for making it happen. Thanks to all who supported our event!
We did it again! Through the support of our staff and our community, McComas Celebration of Life Center was able to fill all of our available slots with Red Cross blood donors! On April 1st, all 39 of our slots were filled and the Red Cross set up shop in our spacious Jarrettsville location. In the end, sixty lives will be saved in our community and beyond because of our donations. We are so grateful to assist the Red Cross during the Covid-19 pandemic to give the gift of life. Thank you to all who came out.
McComas Family Funeral Homes was awarded a certificate in November 2020 for being an extraordinary Blood Program Partner during the COVID-19 pandemic. The drives held and support given was essential in saving lives through blood donation.
McComas Family Funeral Homes is looking to do our part in keeping local small businesses viable during this challenging season of quarantine and recovery. We have purchased gift cards and have showcased local businesses and chosen winners via Facebook. Pictured are just some of the winners.
McComas Celebration of Life Center’s completely full, first ever blood drive was very successful on many levels. From having every slot filled to handling all donors with the utmost care....we did good! Because of our blood donations, 87 lives will be helped, possibly even saved.
The McComas Family provided FREE lunches to all veterans and received community contributions for food served by the Cowboy Eats food truck. Those contributions enabled McComas Family Funeral Homes to make a $1000 donation to the Jarrettsville Manor Memorial Post 8672 VFW. This contribution was accepted with gratitude by Post Commander John Knopp.
McComas Family Funeral Homes invited all those who are mothers or who are missing their mothers or who nurture others to come and receive flowers and our appreciation for all they do, especially during these challenging times.
Once again, McComas Family Funeral Homes has partnered with the YMCA of Maryland, to help sponsor the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot that was held at the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air. McComas Family Funeral Homes has helped to sponsor the event since 2012. This race marks the sixth year that the funeral home has helped to sponsor the event. This year's event attracted a record 1500 participants on a beautiful morning.
In May of this year, McComas Family Funeral Homes sponsored its annual Widow/Widower bus trip to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. This annual trip is meant to bring together families who have recently lost a spouse, and to offer them a day out at the Gardens. McComas Family Funeral Homes has sponsored such trips for the past 5 years. Holly McComas, who coordinates the trip, says “we enjoy the fact that we are able to do something like this in an effort to give back and allow for folks to gather in a relaxed and beautiful setting. It has been so well received over the years, that we intend to continue this tradition for years to come.”
In 2016, the McComas family began examining the services provided to our military families and made the decision to consider retiring an unserviceable United States flag with those service men and women veterans who choose to be cremated.
Research into offering such a service found that United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
McComas launched a program to provide the service, receiving results beyond our wildest expectations. Soon, we had non-military families requesting that a flag be cremated with their loved one.
If you have an American Flag that is no larger than the standard burial flag (5’ x 8’), that is unserviceable or no longer used and is hidden away in the garage, shed or basement because you don’t know what to do with it, consider dropping off your flag at any of the McComas Funeral Home locations in Abingdon, Bel Air or Jarrettsville. They may also be deposited in a drop box at any of our partner locations:
When requested, an American Flag is honorably cremated with the loved one. However, when our inventory exceeds operational needs, one of our partner organizations may hold a formal ceremony to retire the American Flags. While McComas has customarily used representatives of the American Legion, VFW or Scouting organizations, we would consider other civic organizations for conducting an appropriate retirement ceremony. If interested, please contact our Director of Cremation Operations at ltooman@mccomasfuneralhome.com for information and details.
