Howard K. McComas III was born on December 6, 1943 in Harford County, Maryland. He is the son of Howard Kennard McComas, Jr. and Nena Sewell McComas. Howard was raised in Abingdon at the old McComas Funeral Home, one block from the present Abingdon location. Howard graduated from Edgewood High School in June 1961 and began serving his funeral director and embalmer apprenticeship under his father at the McComas Funeral Home. He attended Eckles College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and graduated in March 1964.
Howard is very active in his community. He has been a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church since 1954 and currently serves on the Board of Trustees. In 1959 Howard became a member of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company where he is still a member and served as Assistant Chief for five years in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Howard, along with his wife Judy, live in Abingdon.
In 1971, Howard and his mother Nena, formed the Howard K. McComas III Funeral Home at the present location.
Born and raised in Abingdon, Howard McComas is part of the seventh generation of the McComas family in Funeral Service. A 1985 graduate of Edgewood High School, Howard pursued higher education at Lynchburg College and Appalachian State University in North Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
With a wealth of experience, Howard is dedicated to guiding families through one of the most challenging times in their lives, providing compassionate and seasoned support.
Howard is deeply committed to his community, having served on the Board of Trustees of Harford Community College. Currently, he is the chairman of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Harford and Cecil Counties.
His greatest joy comes from being actively involved in the community and spending quality time with his family. Howard resides in Bel Air, Maryland, with his wife Cheryl and their sons, Howard V (Quentin) and Reagan.
Being part of the seventh consecutive generation of funeral directors in her family, Holly has grown up around the family business. Born and raised in Abingdon, Maryland, Holly is a 1988 graduate of Edgewood High School and a 1992 graduate of Salisbury State University. Holly attended Catonsville Community College earning an A.A. degree in Mortuary Science and has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1994. Holly is also a Certified Funeral Practitioner through the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. Holly is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Selected Independent Funeral Homes, and Delmarva Funeral Directors Association. Holly is also an active member of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association where she has held many offices. Holly is also a member of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Disaster Response Team, where her father was one of the founding members. Holly has been extensively trained in Mass Fatalities Incident Response and hopes that all the experience she will ever receive in this field, God willing, will be in the training itself.
Though Holly has put her competition days behind her, she continues her passion for horses and riding. She finds joy in helping others through difficult times and is committed to carrying on the McComas tradition for her family serving your family. As part of the continuing care of helping the families after the funeral, Holly has enjoyed programs at the funeral home such as the Widow/Widowers Bus Trip to Longwood Gardens and the Annual Service of Remembrance. With the compassion instilled by her ancestors, especially her late grandmother, Nena S. McComas, she strives to make a more meaningful experience for families served.
Charles A. Emge, Jr. is a 1985 graduate of Edgewood High School. He has worked for the Panasonic Warehouse, United Parcel Service as a pre-load supervisor and the Klein’s Grocery Store chain in various management positions. These different career backgrounds never would have pointed in the direction of funeral service; if it was not for the opportunity given by longtime friend Howard K. McComas IV. Charlie has been employed with the funeral home since 1994. He graduated in 1997 from Catonsville Community College with a Mortuary Science Degree. With over 20 years of experience at McComas Funeral Home and working in his hometown community this “funeral service” experience has been extremely rewarding to Charlie to help those he may know.
Married in 1998 to Lisa Ann Siptroth, They reside in Forest Hill with their daughter, Kelly Ann and their sons Eric Michael and Matthew James. He enjoys supporting his children’s interests in sports.
Kim was raised in northeastern Pennsylvania. She is a 1988 graduate of Dallas High School, attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and received her AAS in Mortuary Science from Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY in 1991. After graduation, Kim served her apprenticeship in Norristown, PA and obtained her Pennsylvania funeral directors license in March 1993. After moving to Maryland in 2001, she fulfilled the requirements to secure her Maryland funeral directors license. In 2014, she received her AA from Harford Community College in Paralegal Studies.
Kim is active in the Harford County community serving as a current board member for the Chesapeake Professional Women's Network (CPWN), Harford Family House and Citizens Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a former member of the board of the Geriatric Assistance and Information Network (GAIN). Currently, she is heading the End of Life Caregiver’s Group, which is a group designed to bring together people who represent various organizations that work with people during each stage of the later segment of one’s life to share experiences and educate one another. She is also the US Director for Funeral Professionals Peer Support (FPPS) which is an international group of funeral professionals that promotes the mental health and well-being of our funeral professionals.
Kim lives in Abingdon with her husband, Jeff and their dog Sadie. She has two grown children, John and Zoe. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and attending concerts.
Cora is a homeschool graduate of 2016. She was raised in upstate South Carolina, before moving to Edgewood, MD in 2016 where she began the Mortuary Science Program at CCBC in Catonsville. Cora graduated in December of 2018 and became a licensed funeral director with McComas Funeral Home in the spring of 2019. She previously coached women’s gymnastics for four years in both SC and MD before solely focusing her attention on funeral directing.
Cora lives in Kingsville with her husband, Michael Gray and her two little boys, Grant, born in 2021, and Seeley, born in 2022. She also has a stepson, Christian Gibb-Gray, born in 2008, with Michael. They also have one dog and three cats.
Julia was born and raised in Calvert County, Maryland and is a graduate of Northern High School. She graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 2018. To further her education, she then attended Point Park University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science with a minor in Psychology in 2019. After graduation, Julia moved to Baltimore County where she served her apprenticeship and became a licensed funeral director in 2020.
Julia joined McComas Funeral Home in 2022 and lives in Perry Hall, Maryland with her two cats: Winston and Mr. Klein.
Laura Glauber was born Baltimore into the Glauber's Fine Candies family. While attending Maryvale Preparatory School for Girls (class of 1985), Laura began volunteering for local funeral homes. She then went on to receive her associate degree from Catonsville Community College in Mortuary Science in 1987. Laura married and moved to Pennsylvania and became a licensed funeral director in a family-owned funeral home where she became a supervisor. In 2014, Laura moved back to Baltimore and worked as funeral director in Towson. She has a daughter, Molly, and a son, Michael, both of whom live in North Carolina. Laura also has two grandchildren
Laura lives on a farm in Pylesville where she enjoys spending time with the horses, sheep, and cows. She actively volunteers in the community and love to hike, read, cook, and bake in her free time.
Haleigh Dykes is a 2014 C. Milton Wright graduate and grew up in Bel Air. She attended Harford Community College where she played volleyball and graduated in 2017 with an Associate of Science degree. In 2021, Haleigh decided to leave her job at Aberdeen Proving Ground to pursue something more fulfilling. She began working at McComas Funeral Home before deciding to return to school in the CCBC Mortuary Science Program. She began in the Spring of 2022 and graduated in 2024. In her spare time, she enjoys CrossFit and cooking.
Haleigh currently resides in Pylesville with her husband Steve, their dogs Lilly and Theo and their cat, Wilbur.
Graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. She then went to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science where she graduated in 2000. She became a licensed mortician in Maryland in 2001 while working in Montgomery County, and has also been licensed in Ohio, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
In 2005 she received her insurance license, and then started helping people to pre-plan their funerals.
Melissa and her husband Ken moved to Bel Air in 2005. They have 2 sons, Jaxon, born in 2007 and Wade born in 2012.
Melissa joined the McComas Funeral Home in 2007.
Lee Tooman joined the McComas Funeral Home team in 2011, serving as a Funeral Services Associate and as a member of the Memorial Tribute, Aftercare and Cremation Teams. Lee is a certified cremation operator currently serving in the capacity of Director Cremation Operations.
Growing up in Ohio, Lee served in the U.S. Air Force for 6-1/2 years before attending Medaille College in Buffalo, NY, where he received a Bachelor of Science, Liberal Studies degree majoring in business. After college, Lee spent 35+ years working in the corporate world in facilities, property and project management. During his military and corporate years, Lee and his family lived overseas as well as in 7 different states.
Over his life, Lee has volunteered extensively in the churches he joined. In addition, he has volunteered as a Cub & Boy Scout leader and served as an EMT & 911 dispatcher with a volunteer fire company. Lee has also volunteered in various capacities with several civic organizations.
Lee’s wife, Patti, is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and has recently retired from the corporate world and is now substitute teaching for the Harford County School System. They have a son, Patrick, and a daughter, Shannon, as well as two lovely twin granddaughters, Lauren and Liliana. Lee and his family live in Bel Air.
For relaxation, Lee enjoys his retirement from the corporate world by reading, working on his family tree and traveling, especially cruising.
A Harford County native, Carol graduated from Bel Air High School and received a BA and MS in psychology from Loyola University Maryland. For thirty years, Carol worked in pastoral ministries at the Archdiocese of Baltimore and a number a Catholic parishes, served on numerous committees and presented at conferences and seminars. She and her late husband, Mark were recipients of the Youth Ministry Medal of Honor. Carol retired in 2016 from St. Pius X Church after serving for 13 years as the Pastoral Life Director.
She and Mark raised one daughter, Elizabeth. Her two grandchildren, Eliott and Lydia are the delights of her life. Carol enjoys spending time with extended family and friends, her prayer groups, gardening, reading and flower arranging. The work and mission of the Mark D. Pacione Foundation is also an important focus of her time and energy.
Carol is the Aftercare Coordinator and a Certified Funeral Celebrant at McComas.
Lisa Gigliotti is the controller for McComas Funeral Home, P.A. She graduated from Towson University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She has an extensive background in finance and accounting, with over fifteen years of public accounting experience. Lisa is responsible for monitoring the financial health of McComas Funeral Home, P.A. She was excited to join the McComas team in September of 2022 and has been happy to assist with the business side of this family organization. Lisa loves the “family feel” culture that McComas provides to its employees.
When she is not at work Lisa loves spending time with her family. Her two sons are involved in sports during all seasons of the year, and you can find Lisa on the sidelines cheering them on most evenings and weekends. She is also passionate about group fitness and is a certified group fitness instructor. During her free time, she teaches several group fitness classes in the Bel Air, MD area.
Doug’s extensive career has included experience serving families of Baltimore, Cecil and Harford Counties in for-profit, local government, healthcare, faith-based and not-for profit endeavors in executive leadership roles. As an credentialed minister, his passion is serving grieving families as a Certified Funeral Celebrant, providing meaningful funeral and memorial services. He is specially trained to provide non-religious Celebration of Life services for families not affiliated with a church or parish or for families wanting an alternative to a traditional funeral.
Amy lives near the Jarrettsville Celebration of Life Center with her husband, Jake and their four amazing daughters, who keep leaving for marriage and college. Jake and Amy met at the John Carroll School and were married shortly after graduating college. They enjoyed serving together for 2 years in the Solomon Islands as Peace Corps volunteers before returning stateside to start their jobs and family. Amy would love to give you a tour or welcome you to our Jarrettsville location!
Ashleigh Winters is the Office Manager at McComas Funeral Home; she has been a dedicated employee for 3 years with the McComas family funeral homes. She has many years of customer service and hospitality experience that help her support families while they make difficult decisions. She is a Kenwood High School graduate with some college credits from CCBC Essex for business management.
In her current role as Office Manager, she is responsible for making the memorial packages personal and meaningful for each family. Prior to joining the McComas family funeral homes, she worked at many restaurants and country clubs with various roles from bartending and serving to management. This has brought her significant connections to the community and many opportunities to ensure she offers the best customer service.
Outside of work, if she’s not finding another project around the house to start, she enjoys a great family day, picking crabs, a trip to the beach or a walk on the Ma & Pa trail. She lives in Fallston, Maryland with her Fiancé Ryan, their daughter Isla, black Lab Scotty, and house cat Kit-Kat.
Overall, Ashleigh is a dedicated and hardworking individual with a passion for making families feel at peace and stress free. She strives to make a positive impact on her community and the world around her.
Pam was raised in White Marsh, Md. She is a 1985 graduate of EVT in Cosmetology. She pursued a career in hairdressing and opening her own Salon. In 2013 her husband passed away suddenly and it was then that she realized she wanted to change careers to the funeral home industry. She wanted to help people deal with grief and give them the support they need during such a difficult time.
Pam remarried in 2019 to her childhood sweetheart George. They reside in Abingdon with their 2 dogs Koda, Harley and chickens. We love to take motorcycle rides on the backroads!
