WM. PAUL GORDON, age 88, of Bel Air, MD, died on May 16, 2007 at Hart Heritage, Street, MD. Born in Everett, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob R. and Amanda Price Gordon and was the husband of the late Evelyn A. Smith Gordon.
Mr. Gordon is survived by a son, Gary Paul Gordon of Mechanicsburg, PA; a daughter, Cheryl Gordon Monk and her husband, George Alan Monk, of Bel Air, MD; four brothers, Russell Gordon of Martinsburg, PA, Raymond Gordon of Baltimore, MD, Glen Gordon and Sam Gordon, both of Everett, PA; five sisters, Edith Smith of Everett, PA, Vance Calhoun of Martinsburg, PA, Gladys Stuckey, Sarah Plummer and Sylvia Grimes, all of Everett, PA; and two grandchildren, Jared A. Monk of Bel Air, MD and Leslie A. Gordon of Mechanicsburg, PA.
Mr. Gordon married Evelyn A. Smith the day after Pearl Harbor Day. He entered the Army on December 10, 1941 and worked to retool military planes being used overseas during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in December 1945 returning home to Everett, PA to make a living hunting and trapping for a year. Then, under the GI Bill, he was trained as a carpenter in Baltimore, Maryland and made his home there until moving to Bel Air in 1960.
Mr. Gordon continued his trade as a quality carpenter and was a home builder in Harford County constructing a number of homes in Bel Air area communities. He was a great outdoorsman and an active member of the Izaak Walton League who are environmental advocates and conservationists. He was a fisherman, a hunter and a trapper. Upon his retirement at the age of 78, he took great pride in doing flower and vegetable gardening being a farmer at heart having grown up on a farm in Everett, PA.
