Wilma Mckinney

March 14, 1929 — July 11, 2021

Wilma McKinney, age 92, of Street, Maryland passed away on July 11, 2021 at Harford Memorial Hospital. Born in Independence, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Ross and Mildred (Sinclair) Lyons and wife of the late Glen McKinney.

My mother, Wilma, had lived in Baltimore since her elopement with Glen in 1949. She was born in WV and raised in Arthurdale. When she met someone from WV, she immediately bonded with them. After living in Maryland over 70 years, she retained her WV accent. With a few minutes of meeting Wilma, you were informed she was the “only” daughter and had “7” brothers.

In the last few years, she carried her brightly patterned pocketbook with her at all times (think Sophia from “Golden Girls”) and it would contain pictures, always of her brothers, in birth order. The same $8.00, loose tissues in every compartment, a comb and lipstick (always ready for a touch up).

She enjoyed her grand puppy, “Shelby” (a Yorkie) to whom she said, “As long as I am around, you’ll never have to walk.” She enjoyed sitting on my deck watching birds, drinking iced coffee, with a few blankets and Shelby on her lap. Even though her hearing was very poor, she made up for it with her sight. Wilma noticed everything and liked to bring it to other’s attention. I will miss our daily calls, always closing with an “I love you”.

By the way, the Orioles could have used her as a designated hitter. When she went to the plate, the opposing team would move out farther in the field. She would make the bat crack and off she’d go.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Elaine S. Marsh and husband, Paul Marsh of Belcamp; granddaughter, Laura K. Marine of Belcamp; brothers, Donald "Don" B. Lyons, Darrell Lyons and Raymond "Ray" C Lyons, all residing in Lorain, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph "Lefty" W. Lyons, Robert "Bob" R. Lyons, Otis "Tudor" L. Lyons and George "Fred" F. Lyons.

A graveside service will be private.

Contributions may be made to Hearing Health Foundation, 575 Eighth Ave. Suite1201, New York, New York 10018-3011.
