Willie Lee Magwood

Willie Lee Magwood, age 76, of Joppa, Maryland passed away on January 19, 2021 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Henderson, North Carolina, he was the son of John and Lucy Magwood and husband of Willie Mae Magwood.

Willie gave his life to the Lord at a young age. He was one of God’s faithful servants and devoted his life to God’s work. While serving at the New Refuge Deliverance Cathedral, under the direction of Bishop Naomi Durant, Willie was ordained as a Deacon. Upon receiving this ordination, he decided to assist his mother, Reverend Lucy Magwood at the True Crystal Pentecostal Church until her passing. Seeking a church closer to home, he became a member of Rooted Bible Fellowship Church in Edgewood, Maryland. Friends and family would often seek out Willie for spiritual advice and biblical knowledge. His passion for the word of God allowed him to be a shining example of Christianity for his friends and family. In his spare time, Willie could often be found reading his bible, listening to gospel music, and singing his favorite songs. He would gladly perform a gospel solo anywhere.

Willie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School systems. For over 44 years, Willie was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife Willie Mae. He was affectionately nicknamed “Smiley” because he was always smiling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved good food. Willie worked for many years and retired as a truck driver for New Penn Trucking Company. Upon retirement from trucking, Willie became a school bus driver for C&J Bus Company and the Harford County School system. It was here that “Mr. Willie,” as the kids affectionately called him, found the most joy. He absolutely loved his coworkers and the kids he met while driving the school bus. This continued until the current pandemic put it on hold. In addition to driving the school bus, Willie loved to play golf and could often be found watching it on television. One of his favorite pastimes was beating up on his son, grandsons, and friends on the golf course. Willie was loved by many and will be surely missed.

In addition to his wife Willie Mae, Willie is survived by his four children, Tracy Magwood, Kimberly (Steven) Gilmer, Sheila Walker, and Anthony Magwood, Sr. (Dorothy); seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Williams (Helen); one Aunt Rebecca Fletcher of New Jersey; sisters in law Barbara Sharper, Dorothy (Thomas) Wilson, Junetta (Willie) Wilson, and one brother in law, Andrew Sharper, all of South Carolina. He is also survived by a host of friends and an extended family.
