WILLIAM S. VIANDS, age 65, of Edgewood, died in Atlantic City Medical Center on December 9, 2002. Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Grady Bruce Viands and the late Estelle E. Knox Wood. He had retired after 28 years of service with the Baltimore County Police Department where he worked as a homicide detective for 15 years. He was also a retired from the Army National Guard. A resident of Edgewood since 1965, he was a member of the Elks Lodge in Edgewood, a past Scout Master for Troup 754, a member of the American Legion Post # 17. He also drove buses for Harford County Senior Transportation.
Mr. Viands is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth E. Schmidt Viands; two sons, Bill A. Viands of Edgewood; Steve Viands of Edgewood; two daughters, Sherri Mazza of Baltimore; Lynn Lehman of Baltimore; one brother, Preston Harry Wood of Oklahoma; and one grandson, Jake Mazza of Baltimore.
