William S. Hartling, a resident of Bel Air, MD, died at the age of 71 on August 27, 2016 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was born in Kingston, PA to Henry Arthur and Clara Natalie (Mackow) Hartling. He served our country in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sgt. Major in 1989. He earned many medals including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal, along with many others. He was avid at knife forging and collecting, and also enjoyed fly fishing, animals and talking to neighborhood children about history where they listened intently. He was a member of several organizations including the VFW Aberdeen Post #10028 where he was a life member, American Legion Post #47 in Havre de Grace, TREA (The Retired Enlisted Association), Disabled American Vets, and the Non Commission Officers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda D. Hartling.
