WILLIAM RUFUS ROOP, age 77, of Aberdeen, died at his home on October 24, 2004. Born in Riner, Virginia, he was the son of the late Rufus Roosevelt Roop and his wife the late Virgie Virginia Bishop Roop. Retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service with the Maryland State Highway Administration, he worked as a truck driver. A resident of Harford County for over 60 years, he had also worked at the Commissary at APG. He had also started and ran the Harford Vacuum Service from 1979-1993 in Carsins Run. He loved to work outside including his yard and garden. He raised vegetables for the entire neighborhood. He served his country in the U.S. Marines.
Mr. Roop is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edna May Roop; two sons, Robert D. Roop and his wife, Michelle of Marydel, Delaware; William D. Roop and his wife, Viola of Goodview, Virginia; four daughters, Judith A. Gum of Aberdeen; Carolyn E. Bartosch and her husband, Richard A. of Aberdeen; Nancy J. Harvey and her husband, Bruce W. of Aberdeen; Susan D. Pino of Aberdeen; one sister, Eula M. Ross of Belcamp; 21 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, George W. Roop.
Pallbearers will be: Robert D. Roop, William D. Roop, Robert W. Hall, Jr., Frederick W. Hall, Richard J. Bartosch, Michael A. Bartosch, Clarence E. Ross, and Eugene R. Zellman. Honorary pallbearers will be: Richard A. Bartosch, Bruce W. Harvey, Robert E. Moretz, Kenneth W. Moretz, and Donald E. Moretz.
