William Michael Bates

William Michael Bates, age 53, of Fallston, MD died on January 28, 2010 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Rosalie Gloria Bates of Cockeysville, MD and the late William Hellier Kelley. A published author, his works included Images of America: Bel Air, Harford County in Vintage Postcards, Harford County Then & Now, Images of America: Havre de Grace and Images of America: Aberdeen Proving Ground. A graduate of Harford Leadership Academy class of 2002, he was also a board member of Harford County Chamber of Commerce, committee chair of Education Liaison, as well as Member of the Year in 2002; board member and president of Liriodendron Foundation; board member of Small Business Development Center at Harford Community College; president of Harford New Media, Inc.; and U.S. Small Business Administration Home Based Business Advocate of the Year in Maryland in 2004.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Bates is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Bates; son, Geoff Bates; daughter, Emily Bates, all of Fallston, MD; sister, Susan Elizabeth Bates of Cockeysville, MD; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
