William Mads Poulsen Jr.

February 9, 1935 — May 18, 2012

William Mads Poulsen Jr., of York, PA, formerly of Joppa, MD, was born on February 9, 1935 and left us on May 18, 2012 to reach his final journey home and was greeted by the Lord Jesus Christ along with his Grandmother and Grandfather, Bessie and Elmer Benny and other family and friends.

He graduated from Dundalk High School in 1953 and went to work at Patapsco & Back River Railroad as did his grandfather. He then joined the MD Air National Guard, 175th Tactical Fighter Squadron, and it became his career for 35 years.

He married his beloved wife, Doris Metzger Poulsen, a high school classmate, in 1959 after becoming acquainted at their 5-year high school reunion. His family was his pride and joy and a daughter, Kim Lee, three sons-William III, Kyle Owen, and Brooks Lee became his world. His eight grandsons and one granddaughter completed his dream. He loved sports and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. The Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Colts were special to him.

A people person, he was always involved in helping others. The MD ANG NCO Club became a reality with his involvement. The MD Enlisted Association of the National Guard got its start with his help. He also served as Secretary of the National Association of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard and was actively involved for many years. The Bel Air Recreation Council was a major part of his life for 20 years while coaching and serving on the Board. He was an active member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church since 1973 and served in many leadership roles throughout the years. Since moving to PA, he was a member of Stewartstown Lions Club and enjoyed the fellowship and service projects of the club.

After retirement, Bill and Doris continued to serve the Lord through their participation in Harford Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity RV Care-a- Vanners, traveling around the country in their motor home building homes, and Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child ministry.

Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris; his daughter Kim Lee Bachmann and husband, Jim along with grandsons, Nathan Kyle, Peter Owen, Jonathan Poul, and Stephen James; son William M. Poulsen III and his companion Kim Blevins; son Kyle Owen and wife, Dana, and his only granddaughter, Lilia Lawrence and grandsons Sawyer Gray and Finley Mads; and son Brooks Lee and wife, Kelly, and grandsons Carter Brooks and Cory Mack.
