William Joseph Smetana

William (Bill) Smetana, of Fallston, MD, at the age of 71, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his cat "Baby". Bill was the beloved husband of his wife, Lorraine I. (Weirauch) Smetana for 50 years.

Born on August 30, 1945 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late John J. and Matilda (Discavage) Smetana. After graduating from Portage Senior High School in 1963 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Those who had an opportunity to work with Bill during his many interests and adventures as a truck driver, steel mill blacksmith, construction foreman, ambulance driver (EMT) and volunteer fireman will remember his wit and good humor. Bill loved boating on the Chesapeake Bay and spending summers at Ocean City, MD with family at their condo in Ocean Pines.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-mother, Helen I. (Smilnak) Smetana of Portage, PA; daughter, Dr. Rhonda L. Smetana and her husband Taylor A. Pilker of Bel Air, MD; son, William John Smetana and his wife Charlotte Lafferty Smetana of Bel Air, MD; and grandson Ryan M. Smetana.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John A. Smetana from Morganville, NJ.
