WILLIAM H. MEARS, age 96, of Parkton, Maryland, died in Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania on May 1, 2003. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Edward, Sr. and Winnie Mae Dutton Mears. He was a third generation barber and owned his own shop on Pennsylvania Avenue, later selling it to Monty Suddler who runs it today and presently calls it “Mike’s Place”. He was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church. He traveled extensively after his retirement.
Mr. Mears is survived by his wife of 75 years whom he married in 1928, A. Lillian Parsons Mears; one daughter, Shirley M. Whitehurst of Parkton, MD; one brother, Raymond Mears of Centreville, MD; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
