William George Mcdermott

June 14, 1927 — April 26, 2005

HMCM WILLIAM GEORGE McDERMOTT (USCG Ret.), age 77, of Joppatowne died at Stella Maris Hospice of Timonium on April 26, 2005. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late George and Ethel Fox McDermott and the husband for 33 years of the late Joan Kathryn Cooney McDermott. A resident of Harford County for 40 years, he served his country during WW II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Conflict, first in the Marines, the Navy, and then the Coast Guard where he retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He participated in the Bikini Atoll Operation Nuclear Testing in the Pacific during WW II on the USS Benevolence. He was a member of the Atomic Veterans, the D.A.V. and the Humane Society. He was also a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppa. He was an avid animal lover.

Mr. McDermott is survived by one son, William D. McDermott of Pasadena; five daughters, Gail M. O’Keefe and her husband Michael F. O’Keefe of Edgewood, Karen A. McDermott of Edgewood, Joann Nolan of Lake Barrington, Illinois, Mary C. McDermott of Linthicum, and Carol L. Blesh of Towson; one sister, Marie Perez of New York, New York; 11 grandchildren, M. Ryan O’Keefe of Belcamp, Erin N. O’Keefe of Edgewood, Stephanie N. Dreyer of Bear, Delaware, Samantha L. Dreyer of Linthicum, Delaware, Taylor K. Nolan of Lake Barrington, Illinois, Tatum A. Nolan of Lake Barrington, Illinois, Sydney L. Nolan of Lake Barrington, Illinois, Kathryn J. McDermott of Pasadena, Rachel E. McDermott of Pasadena, Ivy J.C. Blesh of Towson, and Kylie R. Rice of Linthicum; and two great-grandchildren, M. Garrett O’Keefe and M. Brennan O’Keefe both of Belcamp.
