William Carroll Craig Jr., age 89, of Havre de Grace, MD, died on November 29, 2008 at his home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of the late William Carroll Craig Sr. and Minnie May Cooper Craig and husband, for 66 years, of Frances Worthington Craig. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country during WWII. He was a devoted member of the Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church on their Board of Directors, as well as, the Odd Fellows of Churchville. A Charter and Life member of the Level Volunteer Fire Company, he served as past Chief, past Assistant Chief, was on the Board of Directors, and was also their "Official Meat Slicer" and enjoyed helping out with all the events. He was in the Harford/Cecil Firefighter Hall of Fame, as well as, the Maryland Hall of Fame. He enjoyed dancing with the Harford Hoedowners and the Dublin Dancers for many years, until about two years ago, and also enjoyed farming and restoring John Deere tractors. He was always willing to help until the job was done and done right.
Mr. Craig is survived by sons, James Worthington Craig and wife, Shirley, and William David Craig and wife, Carolyn; five grandchildren, Daniel R. Craig, Karen C. Platt, Kasey S. Craig, Michael S. Craig, and Patrick D. Craig; and eight great-grandchildren, Frederick S. Platt III, Brandon R. Craig, Kenneth J. Craig, Brittney C. Little, Joshua Craig, Jamie Craig, Jonathan Craig, and David Reeves.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Samuel C. Craig and a sister, Elizabeth C. Worthington.
Pallbearers will be Douglas, Brian, Thomas and Ronald Worthington, Daniel R. Craig, and Clarence Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Worthington and Kenneth Starr.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, 409 North Paradise Rd., Aberdeen, MD 21001 or to Level Volunteer Fire Company, 3633 Level Village Rd., Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
