William ''Bill'' Martin

William "Bill" Martin, age 80, of Joppa, MD, originally from DuQuoin, IL, passed away on December 11, 2011 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born in DuQuoin, IL, he was the son of Helen Hattie Poiter Martin of DuQuoin, IL and the late Harry Leo Martin. He graduated in 1949 from DuQuoin High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for CSX Railroad for 42 years as a computer operator in the Car Location Info Center. A member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppatowne, he enjoyed calligraphy, working with stained glass, and sports, especially baseball.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Martin of Joppa, MD; sons, Paul Martin and wife, Beth, of Bel Air, MD and Steve Martin and wife, Tracy, of Forest Hill, MD; brother, Paul Dean Martin of Buffalo, NY; sister, Delores "Sis" Whitson of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, John, Jake, Amy, Kristen, Aaron, and Alexandra; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn Bell and Joe-Joe.
