WILLIAM “BILL” B. SMITH, JR., age 69, of Darlington, died at St. Joseph’s Medical Center on January 19, 2004. Born in St. Joseph, Tennessee, he was the son of Lora Bell Perry Garland of St. Joseph, Tennessee, and the late William Brady Smith, Sr. He worked for the State Highway Department as a small engine mechanic. He had worked for 20 years for DeBonis Chevrolet. He was an accomplished musician and a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was a song director. He sang in a lot of churches in Harford and Cecil Counties and also in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed cutting wood and was an avid gardener. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 45 years, Arlene A. Bishop Smith; three sons, Rev. Donald R. Smith and his wife, Debbie of Port Deposit; William B. Smith, III and his wife, Kathy of Norris, South Carolina; Rex A. Smith and his wife, Yvonne of Conowingo; two daughters, Angela C. Skinner and her husband, George of Perryville; Debbie L. Tate and her husband Lee of Aberdeen; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his step-father, Chester Garland.
Pallbearers will be: Brady Smith, Brandon Smith, Corey Smith, Alan Smith, Dwayne Smith, and George Skinner. Honorary pallbearers will be: David Smith, Dane Smith, and Georgie Skinner.
