William Alexander Hulmes, Jr., of Bel Air died suddenly on December 5, 2005. He was 84 years old. Born in Philadelphia he lived in Alexandria, VA before moving to Bel Air in 1969.
Prior to his enlisting in the Army in 1942 he had attended the University of Virginia. He served as a Paratrooper in WWII with the 11th Airborne Division in SW Pacific. He paratrooped into Japan as part of the Occupational Forces joining General McArthur. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal and the Victory Medal. In 1950 he received a direct commission from the Pentagon, and served during the Korean War as the Commanding Officer of Signal Corp Company assigned to Ft. Holabird, MD. He retired from Western Electric after 42 years of service as Chief of Personnel for the Washington Installation area. Following retirement he worked as a Real Estate agent for Ward & Bosley and Clark Turner.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lee of 58 years and a sister Betty Jane Keyser of Del Ray Beach, FL. He enjoyed traveling, reading and going to the casinos.
