Wilbur Monroe Penley, age 77, of Forest Hill, MD, died on October 14, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air MD. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Harold Clark Penley and Myrtle Mae Herrick Dunn. He had worked as an insurance adjuster, and recently worked for Bel Air Auto Auction. A 1951 graduate of Baltimore City College, he was a resident of Harford County for 40 years, and was a member of Bay Country Gentlemen and the Barbershop Harmony Society. He was Senior Warden at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church for 4 ½ years, and had many Masonic affiliations, including a Past Master at Mt. Ararat #44, Past Patron of Harford Chapter #83 and Victory Chapter #40 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Degree of Chevalier for the order of DeMolay, The Maryland Preceptor DeMolay Legion of Honor, Member of the Hiram Council No. 5, R. & S.M., Tuscan Royal Arch Chapter No. 42; Red Cross of Constantine, Intendant-General, Past Grand Tall Cedar at #142, and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite.
Mr. Penley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Hedrick Penley of Forest Hill, MD; son, James C. Penley of Baltimore, MD; brother, Wayne C. Penley Sr. and wife, Becky, of Carney, MD; sister, Dorothy P. Danner and husband, Melvin, of Berlin, MD; step-brother, Lawrence Dunn of Denmark, ME; also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Paul K. Penley.
