Westley Kem Creque was born June 29, 1969 at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York to Roberto Creque and Alethia Jakes. In the absence of his mother, Westley formed a close relationship with a loving woman whom he affectionately referred to as "stepmother" Patricia Jackson recently departed.
Westley grew up under the spiritual guidance of his maternal grandfather, Bishop Thomas Jakes Sr. and Victoria Jakes both are now deceased. His bible training began as he grew up in St. Marks Holy Church. It was there that he flourished and embraced the love of God and His word.
He completed his formal education in Brooklyn, NY at Prospect Heights and Erasmus Hall High Schools. He relocated to the Maryland area at a young age. It was there that he met Rhonda Watkins and together they had a lovely daughter whom they named Lestley Creque. He cherished his daughter and wherever Westley went there you would find Lestley. He was often seen teaching her not only the word of God but how to be self sufficient and independent.
Westley came to know Jesus as Lord in Maryland in his adult life. He quickly began to study God's word and apply it to his life as well as his family and friends. It was a daily ritual that he would deposit scriptures into the lives of his family and friends via text, Facebook, and email. Thank God for the 21st century he navigated it well and utilized the social network to win souls for Christ.
He fostered his love for Christ and the word of God under the leadership of Pastor Kevin L. Webster, of the Rooted Bible Fellowship Church, Edgewood, Maryland, where he became an active and devoted disciple in August of 2004. It was at The Rooted Bible Fellowship Church that he served as one of the "Mighty Men". He worked with passion, commitment and excellence.
Although Westley dealt with an ailment for many years, he always had encouraging words and he certainly understood Psalm 30:5: "Weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning…" Westley's joy came on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 when he was called home and God reached down and picked the most precious flower to return to Glory with Him. It is stated in Psalm 16:11 "Thou wilt show the path of life…in thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Although we deeply mourn the loss of Westley, we know that II Corinthians 5:8 states…"to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".
Our dear Westley leaves to mourn a beautiful daughter Lestley Creque, loving sisters Tameka Creque of New York and Aurelia Creque of California, brothers Roberto Jackson of Florida, Kufa Creque of Texas, his committed companion Rhonda Watkins and her sons, Kenny and Kendall Watkins, a precious Godmother Pastor Andrea Vereen, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends in New York, and he also embraced his family from Maryland, to include Ms. Sissy, Velenda, LaWanda, Shavon, and the Rooted Bible Fellowship family. We will forever cherish the memory of Westley. "Gone but not forgotten."
