Wayne William Rice

Wayne William Rice, age 66, passed peacefully, Friday 10/7/2016, at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD after a short-term battle with colon cancer.

Born in Lewisburg, PA on 9/27/1950 to Nellie Stahley Rice and William Floyd Rice, he grew up in the area. Following in the footsteps of his father, Wayne was active in scouting, earning the Eagle Scout award. He sang in school chorus and high school musicals, earning an all-state chorus award and holding lead roles. He was a member of a rock band and loved playing guitar and writing music. Wayne's favorite place to spend time was at the family cabin in Mifflinburg with family and friends…it remained his peaceful place his entire life.

Moving to Baltimore, Maryland as a young man, Wayne attended local community colleges, earning degrees in the construction trades. During his career, Wayne worked as Facilities Director at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical center and Project Manager at the Baltimore County Revenue Authority. Wayne was an advocate and volunteer for children and was a BOD member of the childcare board of Baltimore County. His generous spirit helping others in many ways included achieving a 2-gallon blood donor pin with the Red Cross.

An enthusiast in all ventures, Wayne loved sailing and navigated several off-shore Bermuda and local races. He was an instructor and member of the U.S. Coast Guard. Wayne was an avid motorcyclist and a Harley owner, as well as a collector of antique cars. Wayne's greatest love was for his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife Joyce, loving daughters Teagan and Margaux Rice and step-children Meridith Covert, Jennavieve and Michael Rubin, new grandson Caleb, siblings Jim and Cynthia Rice, Leann and Scott Crabb, Diann and Mark Mossel and nephews and nieces James, Bethany, Katelyn, Jamie, Cole, and Annika and his many dear cousins and extended family members. His kind and generous heart, charming smile and exuberant laugh will be long remembered...

A memorial service and celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

Wayne's final wish was to leave a lasting message by telling his story and creating this fund in the hope that with direct dialogue through education, early screening and awareness of the life limits of this aggressive disease, lives could be saved, not lost...so in Wayne's words regarding colonoscopies, "just get it done!"
