Walter Michael Scowden

January 26, 1961 — January 14, 2025

Walter Michael Scowden, age 63, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away on January 14, 2025, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter and Esther (Harrison) Scowden and the beloved husband of Lisa (LaPaglia) Scowden.

Walter was a devoted father and leader, deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as Scoutmaster of Troop #810 for eight years and as Advancement Chair for the Harford District. He generously volunteered his time and expertise at the Anita Leight Estuary Center and was currently serving as the bookkeeper for the Otter Point Creek Alliance.

A dedicated member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-7, Walter served as Past Treasurer and was an active participant in the BMET's Association through his professional life, holding the position of Treasurer.

Walter was a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, sailing, crabbing, and camping. His enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits extended to his long-time membership in the N.R.A., where he served as an instructor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his sons, Walter Michael Scowden III (Blair), Gregory Scott Scowden, and Adam John Scowden (Sarah); and his cherished grandchildren, Jase and Braden. Walter is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Babon (James) and Alice Snively (Pete); his brother, Robert Scowden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Anita Leight Estuary Center Otter Point Creek Alliance, 700 Otter Point Road, Abingdon, MD 21009.

Walter’s legacy of service, love for the outdoors, and dedication to his family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
