WALTER FRANCIS MACPHERSON, age 83, of Abingdon, died in Gilchrist Center of Greater Baltimore Medical Center on October 8, 2003. Born in Flushing, New York, he was the son of the late John David and Elizabeth Flanagan MacPherson. He retired from Westinghouse after 42 years where he was a supervisor in the assembly wiring model lab and was involved in developing the first moon camera. An Abingdon resident for 13 years, he attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he was active in the choir and various other capacities including sacristan. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theatre as a radio operator. He loved to sing and dance. He used to be involved with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Woodlawn where he was active as a cantor, a member of the choir and participated in parish musicals.
Mr. MacPherson is survived by is wife of 61 years, Doris Ruth Seidel MacPherson; three sons, Walter G. MacPherson of Yocumtown, Pennsylvania; Robert F. MacPherson of Adelaide, Australia; Michael D. MacPherson of Bel Air; one daughter, Judith E. MacPherson of Arlington, Virginia; one brother, John Gerald MacPherson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1450 Abingdon Road, Abingdon, Maryland 21009.
