William Wylie Hopkins, Jr. passed away on December 8, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born April 16, 1921, the son of William Wylie and Annabel Webb Hopkins of Bel Air, MD. Mr. Hopkins graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in accounting in 1942. He then passed the C.P.A. exam, and later graduated from the University of Maryland Law School and became a member of the Harford County Bar Association. During World War II, Mr. Hopkins served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He was an Army Cargo Accountability Officer in Pusan, South Korea during the Korean Conflict. As a civilian, he worked for Monumental Life Insurance Company in Baltimore, MD as an Assistant Vice President in the Mortgage Loan Branch of their Investment Department. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Honorary Fraternity, the Harford County Bar Association, the Bel Air Rotary Club, the University of Maryland Alumnae Association, the Mt. Ararat Lodge AF & AM, and a charter member of the Maryland Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed golf, photography, the Baltimore Opera and BSO, and traveling on family vacations.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Robin Ann Chesney, two daughters, Amanda Hopkins Tirrell and husband, Christopher, and Adrienne Hopkins Kozma and husband, Daniel, three grandchildren, Penelope Alexiadis, Julia Kozma and William Kozma, and a brother, Harry L.W. Hopkins.
A private interment at Darlington Cemetery was attended by the immediate family. Pallbearers were Kenneth Holt, Christopher Tirrell, Dan Kozma, Ryland Mitchell, Wylie Mitchell and Bosley Ensor.
