W. Wiley Rutledge

W. Wiley Rutledge, age 88, of Jarrettsville, MD passed away on June 23, 2023 at his home on the Rutledge Brick House Farm where he spent his whole life. Born on the farm, he was the son of James Bevard Rutledge and Marian Elizabeth (Wiley) Rutledge. Wiley is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary M. Rutledge (nee Lowe); son Walter (Charlotte) Rutledge; daughter Martha Ann (Garry) Smithson; son David (Patricia) Rutledge, sister Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Murphy; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings William Rutledge, Dr. James Rutledge, and Anne Harkins.

Wiley was a dedicated dairy farmer all his life and loved what he did. His family is now carrying on with the family farm. Throughout his life, Wiley retained a great deal of historical knowledge and enjoyed sharing that knowledge through stories he told.  Wiley was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.  As a member of Hawks End Zone Club, he enjoyed raising funds for North Harford High School.  Wiley was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and going to the mountains in Flatwood, WV and Potter County, PA with his family and friends. He truly loved family gatherings and social events.

Visitation will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church in White Hall, MD on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm with a service to immediately follow. Rev. Melissa A. McDade will be officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
