Virginia Mathious Sudeck, age 93, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on January 19, 2023 at her home. Born in Athens, Greece in 1927, she was the youngest of five children of Markos and Helen Mavrelis. She was 19 years old when she came to America from Greece and lived in Aberdeen where she worked for her brother who owned The Mayflower Restaurant. She married John Mathious and had three children during their marriage, Markella, Mark and Gus, and remained married for 25 years. In 1962 they opened their own restaurant, The Bridge Diner, in Havre de Grace and in the late 60’s, opened their second restaurant The Seven Seas. After her marriage with John, she later went on to marry Bill Sudeck who passed away 4 years later. Since then, she had devoted her whole life to her family and children. In 1991 she and her 2 sons opened The Station House, in Jarrettsville, a liquor store, and The Station House in Stewartstown, PA. She retired in 2004 and became very active in her church, St. Mary Magdalene and Markella Greek Orthodox Church in Darlington. She loved to bake, cook, entertain, and make people happy. Wherever she was there was laughter all around her. Virginia stayed active till the day she went to the hospital.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Markella Mathious; sons, Markos Mathious and Gus Mathious; granddaughter, Lauren Mathious Burgos; grandsons, Nicholas Mathious and Michael Mathious; great-granddaughters, Ryka Burgos and Raevyn Burgos; and great-grandson, Rayne Burgos.
