Virginia Ellen Hodge was born in 1922 in Denver Colorado, the youngest of four children, to Rudolph and Nellie Spring. Growing up post-depression, she loved roller skating and spending time with her sister, Ruth. She married her husband, Aaron, in 1941. They had two children, Howard and Don.
Her talent in hospitality began to shine when Aaron was called into the ministry. As a Southern Baptist preacher’s wife, Virginia loved making people feel welcome and comfortable. She was a skilled piano-player who would often play during services. Life in the ministry led them to live in many places across the United States and Canada, as well as for a brief time in Vietnam. Later in life, Virginia settled in Maryland, where she lived for the last 27 years.
Virginia is survived by her son, Howard Hodge, as well as her two daughters-in-love, Karin Hodge Johnson and Gennie Hodge. She has 6 grandchildren, Chris Hodge (Stephanie), Michael Hodge (Jennifer), Thomas Hodge, Kathy Futral (Michael), Laura Hodge (Matthew Dreher), and Jacob Hodge (Kelsey Franey). She also has 8 great-grandchildren: Avery, Kelsey, Alyssa, Macey, Carter, Haley, Emma, Gabe; and one great-great grandchild Jaxson.
A memorial service will be planned in the future once restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic are lifted.
