Virginia Edith Keane

February 21, 1942 — June 8, 2021

Virginia Edith Keane, age 79, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on June 8, 2021 at her home. Born in New York, New York, she was the daughter of Thomas Duncan and Edith (Williams) Fraser and the wife of her devoted, loving husband, William Patrick Keane Sr. They were married for 56 years.

Virginia trained for a career as a registered nurse at Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Rhode Island. Over the years, she worked both in hospitals and as a school nurse. Her love of nursing came from her servant’s heart. She was a natural caretaker and deeply empathetic.

Virginia spent her childhood with her sister Eileen in Rutherford, New Jersey. Alongside her husband, Virginia raised her five children in Freehold, NJ with gospel values and just the right mix of discipline and tenderness. Her home was filled with enthusiasm, encouragement, music, hobbies, and a sprinkle of pixie dust. Virginia loved hosting family events and times when the family could get away together.

Virginia enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially at the Jersey Shore where she was always ready and willing to “jump the waves”. She particularly loved Long Beach Island, NJ. One of her favorite lifelong pastimes was to sit on the beach with a good book.

Virginia was a woman of great faith and prayed for her entire family on a regular basis. She attended Bible studies and enjoyed many years singing in the church choir. One of her favorite songs was “On Eagle’s Wings”. Her faith was passed down to all her children, and it continues through all her grandchildren. She enjoyed loving and caring for each grandchild and learning about their unique interests and talents. Virginia Edith Keane will always be greatly missed by her family but they take great comfort in knowing she is in the loving arms of Jesus. “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28

In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her sister, Eileen (Fraser) Rivers; daughter Colleen (Michael) Wodell, and four sons, William (Lynlee) Patrick Keane, Jr., Christopher (Laura) Keane, Thomas (Sharon) Keane, Kevin (Madison) Keane; and seven granddaughters and three grandsons.
