VIOLET A. CAUDILL, age 78, of Churchville, died at her home on August 27, 2005. Born in Galax, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Martin Cleveland and Pearl Mae Nichols Caudill. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mack E. Caudill; two daughters, Emoryetta M. Garcia of Fort Stewart, Georgia and Anita M. Reedy of Edgewood; one son, Bobby J. Caudill of Elkton; two sisters, Margie Sexton of Galax, Virginia and Edna Anderson of Ocala, Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A strong and independent woman, Mrs. Caudill moved from her home in Virginia to Maryland where she was a “Rosie Riveter” during WW II. She returned to Virginia where she married and gave birth to her three children. In the mid sixties, with her family, she returned to Maryland and worked with the U.S. Postal Service at Churchville for 17 years where she retired as Postmaster. She was devoted to the “Old School” Baptist Church where her grandfather had been a preacher. She was a founding member of the reconstituted Old Harford Primitive Baptist Church at the Historic Old Brick Meeting House in Jarrettsville, MD. She never stopped caring for and supporting those less able to care for themselves.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family was her greatest source of pride and joy. She was likewise proud of her country. She and her husband traveled as much as they could to see this beautiful land and meet it’s interesting people. She had many other passions including her favorite sport…shopping. She loved shopping to add to her collections of dolls, chicken figurines and, always a patriot, she collected bald eagle statues and American flags.
Pallbearers were: Jerome Heathcott, Jr., Christopher Caudill, Jacob Gaskill, Dean Fischer, Richard Clore, and Kenneth Rubright. Honorary pallbearers were: Frank Vest, Mark Chamness, and Michael Rubright.
