Viola E. Thompson

October 10, 1921 — April 14, 2008

Viola "Vi" Estelle Thompson of Joppa, Maryland passed at home with her grandchildren on April 14, 2008. She was 86 years old.

Vi was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Leroy and Eva Richardson. She married William R. Thompson in 1938 and moved to Joppa in 1950.

Vi was a Charter Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. A member since 1953, Vi served as President in 1957 and 1972. She represented the Ladies Auxiliary many times at the state convention in Ocean City and served several years on the board of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Maryland State Fireman's Association. She also volunteered at Fallston General Hospital for over 9, 800 hours.

Vi enjoyed serving dinners at the firehouse, playing bingo, and going on bus trips with the Harford Renegades. She is well known for her delicious crab cakes and pound cake.

Along with her parents, Vi is predeceased by her husband, William R. Thompson, her brother, Leroy Richardson, her sister, Alverta Richardson, and her two sons, Roger K. Thompson and Dan P. Thompson.

Vi is survived by her son, Tommy Thompson of Costa Rica, her sister Ethel Lohmeyer of Baltimore, and her brother Arthur Richardson of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Known as Mommom to many, she is also survived by her grandchildren: Tom Thompson and his wife Maria of Rising Sun; Bill Thompson and his fiancé Sherry Hall of Churchville; Kimberly Lassahan and her husband Dale of Baltimore; Traci Crampton and her husband Bob of Baltimore; Kristine Miller and her husband Roy of Pylesville; Teresa Thompson of Plymouth, Massachusetts; and Jacklyn Thompson of Belcamp. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Hailey and Seth Miller of Pylesville, MD, Alexa Thompson of Rising Sun, MD, Elizabeth and Robert Crampton, and Vincent and Eric Lassahan of Baltimore, MD.
