Vernon W. Brown III, age 37, of Abingdon, MD, departed this life on November 13, 2009, at Gilchrist Center in Towson, MD. Vernon was born in Havre de Grace, MD to Vernon Washington Brown, Jr. and Mary Jane Ringgold of Woodstock, MD. Vernon spent the majority of his life in the Harford County community. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in history at Salisbury University in 1995, he returned to Harford County, spending his entire career as an accomplished educator and coach at Fallston High School. Vernon continued his studies by attending the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, where he earned his Master of Arts in administration.
In the classroom, on the basketball court, and on the soccer field, Mr. Brown was devoted to the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of his students and players. To further support and encourage lifelong learning, Mr. Brown co-sponsored the Culturally International Club and chaperoned trips abroad with Fallston students, visiting England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. For his 14 years of service to the Fallston High School community, the yearbook staff dedicated the 2009 edition of the Catamount to him.
Vernon is survived by his parents and his daughter, Alexandra Marie Allen of Towson, MD; devoted companion, Brenda Sherrard Haupt; grandfather, Vernon W. Brown, Sr.; aunts and uncles, Brenda Harris, Robert Ringgold, Jacqueline Jones (Thomas), Deborah Rose (Robert), Orlando Brown (Kris), Benjamin Kirksey. Also left to cherish his memory are god-sisters, Dr. Morgan Roberts, Tosha Brown, Letisha Washington; a host of cousins; best friend, Rett Warren; dear friends, Tony McCray, Desjuan Hinton, Trish Uppercue, Danyka Lewis, and Lisa Tittle. Vernon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Agnes T. Brown, Ollie W. Ringgold, Jr., Lillian M. Ringgold; aunt and uncle, Marlene V. Kirksey, Claude L. Ringgold; and good friend, Tony Cooper.
