VELMA MAE JOHNSON, age 95, of Abingdon, MD, died on November 22, 2006, at her daughter’s home. Born in Madonna, MD, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Winfield and Adella Amanda Alloway Preston and the wife of the late James Oakley Johnson. She was a long time resident of Harford County, born, raised, and was employed at Edgewood Arsenal in the 1940’s. She worked for Stewarts Department Store and then later at Hutzlers in Towson, from which she retired in 1973. She moved to Virginia to her husband’s family tobacco farm, which she helped maintain. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and she loved her cats.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by one daughter, Karen Molnar and her husband Jack of Bel Air, MD; two sisters, Louise Dixon of Bel Air, MD, and Winnie Dominick of Annapolis, MD; six grandchildren, Gary Molnar and Suzanne Greeley, both of Darlington, MD, Christopher Molnar of Colora, MD, Theresa Perala of Louisville, KY, Amanda Miller of Whiteford, MD, and Victoria Molnar of Bel Air, MD; and seven great-grandchildren.
