Velma Joan Kelly, Joan, 89, died peacefully on July 3, 2020 in Churchville, MD at the home of her sister. She was born Feb. 27, 1931 in Raleigh, NC to Velma Asenath (Wheeler) and William R. Kelly, Sr.
In her younger years she was very active sewing and making various craft projects. She is a member of University Baptist Church where for many years she participated in mission sewing projects. She, along with her parents, were very active preparing the Wednesday evening dinners, fellowship, and Bible study. She loved family times together, the summer gardening with flower and vegetables, and especially the church picnics and family reunions. Her greatest joy was to help someone.
After her mother died, Joan took care of her father for many years until his death. She continued to live independently until she was no longer able and then moved to live with her sister, Carolyn and Dean Youngberg in Churchville.
Joan was also preceded in death by her brother’s wife, Joan Anne Kelly. She is survived by her brother, William R. Kelly, Jr. and sisters, Carolyn and (Dean) Youngberg, and Barbara Jean and (Russell) Horsley. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, several grand-nieces and grand-nephews, three great grand-nephews and two great grand-nieces.
