Tom Ruddy

Thomas "Tom" Ruddy, age 66, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and dogs on April 13, 2025.

Born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Tom was the beloved son of the late Donald and Mary (Langan) Ruddy. He was the devoted husband of Della (Roddy) Ruddy, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.

The father of three daughters, he was the ultimate girl dad. “Big T”, as his daughters lovingly called him, never missed a Father Daughter Dance or soccer game, and took great pride in teaching his girls how to mow a lawn, drive a car, and change a tire.

Tom loved the outdoors, and his happy place was sitting on his screened-in porch surrounded by his dogs. He was a passionate sports fan who never missed a Penn State or Ravens football game and lived for March Madness.

A devout Bruce Springsteen fan, E Street Radio was the soundtrack of Tom’s life – and many family road trips. He saw “The Boss” in concert in Pittsburgh and Baltimore countless times and traveled as far as Denmark to see him perform in 2023.

A generous friend, he was always ready to make the crab run for Labor Day picnics or help chase out a wayward squirrel that had made its way into a petrified neighbor’s house. Even after he’d become ill a few winters ago, he insisted on snow-blowing virtually his entire cul-de-sac after one bad storm. Tom had a mischievous streak and enjoyed good-humored teasing. He had a booming laugh, delighted in storytelling, and was seen as the glue that kept his many groups of friends together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He spent the last seven years of his professional life serving as a property manager for the Baltimore County government. Prior to that, he had a long career in the moving and storage industry and helped move countless friends and family members all over the country.

In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Conway, Stacy Thelin (Christopher), Allison Ruddy; grandson, Maxwell Conway; brothers, Bob, Joe, Jerry and Paul and sister Linda Zaycosky.
