Tom Gurganious, age 87, of Bel Air, MD passed away on December 13, 2012 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Rocky Mount, NC, he was the son of the late Rodney Herman and Victoria Kenan Gurganious. A Harford County resident for 50 years, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served our country during WWII. He worked in civil service in many capacities for over 50 years. While working in civil service, he was involved in several patents, one which he developed and traveled for several tours in Vietnam as an engineer to demonstrate the new devices. Upon retirement on January 3, 1987, he was serving as the Chief of Facilities Division of Combat Systems Test Activity at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) and became a lifetime member of the National Association of Retired Employees (NARFE).
Mr. Gurganious is a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, taught Sunday school and was a Royal Ambassador Leader. Education was a very important tenant in his life; family was at the center of his life. He was always ready to help anyone in need, enjoyed camping while traveling around the country, visiting all 50 states with his wife, and enjoyed working with computers.
Mr. Gurganious is survived by his wife, Parthenia Gurganious of Bel Air, MD; sons, Tom Gurganious Jr. and wife, Cassie of Orlando, FL and David Aubrey Gurganious and wife, Jane of Glen Burnie, MD; daughters, Teresa "Terry" Gurganious Miranda and husband, Charles of Georgia, VT and Peggy Gurganious Clabough and husband, Doug of Lebanon, NJ; brothers, Robert Herman Gurganious of Atkinson, NC, George Horace Gurganious of Friendswood, TX and James Pierce Gurganious of Orlando, FL; sisters, Rosa Lee Webster of Baltimore, MD and Hazel Marie Wells of Burgaw, NC; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tom Gurganious Jr., Brian Clabough, Charlie Miranda, Michael Clabough, Bob Willard and Jack Mead.
