Thomas William Greene, age 82, passed away on August 17, 2006 at Veteran’s Hospital, Perry Point, MD. Born on October 12, 1923, Mr. Greene resided in Van Bibber, MD. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his father, the Honorable Thomas Greene and his beloved mother Elizabeth. “Billy”, as he was known, was a retired federal employee of Edgewood Arsenal. Billy was a decorated WWII veteran, and as a member of the United States Navy, he participated in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. He was on the first wave of the landing at Normandy where he repeatedly came under intense enemy fire. He was later assigned to the Pacific Theater of Operations until the end of the war. During his youth he was an outstanding all-around athlete, particularly excelling in baseball where he played in the outfield. In retirement years, Billy was devoted to the pursuits of golf and bowling.

Mr. Greene is survived by his sisters, Margaret Greene of Joppa, MD and “Honey” Greene Freeble of Pittsburgh, PA; a niece, Leslie Morgan Devens; two nephews, Jerry D. Freeble and Christopher H. Freeble, all of Sewickley, PA, who all dearly loved him.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made in Billy’s name to the Veteran’s Hospital of Perry Point, MD, with the request that funds be applied to the well-being and comfort of his fellow patients, friends and veterans.
