THOMAS RUSSELL HOLMES, SR., age 82, of Bel Air, died at his home on July 22, 2005. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Russell and Helen Edna Shafer Holmes, and the husband of the late Marian Wagner Holmes. He had retired from his job with U.S. Customs where he worked as an inspector. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was the Post Quarter Master of the VFW Post 751. He graduated from Poly Tech and University of Maryland. He was the past president of the Baltimore Local National Treasury Employees Union. He enjoyed Civil War history and traveling. He belonged to the Sons of the Civil War. He was a lifelong member of Grace and St. Peter Episcopal Church in Baltimore.
Mr. Holmes is survived by one son, William J. Holmes and his wife, Vickie J. of Nashville, Tennessee; two daughters, Patricia H. Kettle and her husband, Patrick E. of Bel Air and Rebecca Holmes and her partner, Helene Scharf of Catonsville; three grandchildren, Michael Holmes of Baltimore, Stephen Holmes of Nashville, TN, and Andrew Kettle of Bel Air. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one son, Thomas R. Holmes, III.
