Thomas Edward Harris, Jr., born January 30, 1955 to the late Thomas Edward Harris, Sr. and Rosalind Blake, unexpectedly departed this life on September 28, 2020. “Sweet Pea”, or “Sweets”, as he was affectionately called by friends and family, was an only child with an incredible bond with his father. He often proudly proclaimed that he was his father’s “number one son”. Sweet Pea often spoke about how fortunate he was to spend time with his father during the last moments before his passing. They laughed, cried and conversed deeply; helping to soften the pain of the great loss that soon followed.
Sweet Pea matriculated through Harford County Public Schools and attended Edgewood High School, later earning his GED. During his teenage years and throughout adulthood, Sweet Pea proved himself to be a jack of all trades. He was a self proclaimed super mechanic and handyman throughout his life. He learned and practiced his handyman skills while working with Harris Brothers Trash Removal along with his father, aunts, and uncles, and cousins; and later while working with Harford Sanitation. He returned working with his father, uncle and cousins at Lloyd’s Home Sales, Inc. While developing and mastering his professional skills, Sweet Pea also devoted himself to the Muslim faith at age 19. Hasan, as he was respectfully called by his Muslim family, prioritized his faith through prayer. He learned Arabic, and over the years became fluent in both speaking and writing Arabic. Between working and practicing his faith, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, cooking, skating, biking, landscaping, and spending time with his fiancé, Tamara Freeman.
In addition to his faith, trades and hobbies, Sweet Pea shared a deep bond with his family. He enjoyed laughing, joking, and just being in the company of his aunts and uncles, and many cousins. It would be hard to find a cousin, aunt or uncle that doesn’t have a Sweets related anecdote to share at a moment’s notice. He was especially close with his Aunt Ann, who he lovingly referred to as Mom, in addition to his cousins Sanura, Ike, Markeya and Chris-hardly a day went by that Sweets wasn’t wearing one of his Robot Films shirts. Above all else, he had a fond attachment to ‘3827’, strengthened by memories of spending time with his grandmother, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 3827 definitely held a special place in his heart, and just like those good old days are missed, Sweets will truly be missed by family and friends alike.
Sweet Pea is survived by his fiancé, Tamara Freeman, aunts, Evelyn Brice (Morris Sr), Anna Moore, Linda Johnson, Denise Stokes, and Laura Cromwell; uncles, Lloyd Harris (Rhonda), James Harris (Paula), Charles Harris (Renee), and Roger Harris (Catherine); more than a hundred first, second, and third cousins; as well as a host of other extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by aunts, Betty Miller, Charlotte Robinson, Viola Jones, and Shirley Holt; as well as his grandmother Anna Louise Harris.
