Thomas C. Vaught Sr., age 77, of Bel Air, MD, died on October 22, 2008 at his home. Born in Ashe County, NC, he was the son of the late Fred Thomas and Ida Etta Rutherford Vaught. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division out of Ft. Benning, GA. He graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. He was a longtime marketing and sales representative for Standard Equipment, Inc., which was the family owned business. He retired from Baltimore Office Supply Company in 1990. A longtime member of Mountain Christian Church, he enjoyed reading his Bible. He also enjoyed painting, oil painting, sketching, coaching Little League Baseball, watching birds and making birdhouses. He also ran four 26 mile marathons with his son.
Mr. Vaught is survived by his wife of 54 years, H. Ruth Magness Vaught of Bel Air, MD; a son, Thomas Charles Vaught Jr. of Bel Air, MD; three daughters, Ruthann DeMan and Barbara Jane Vaught, both of Abingdon, MD and Patricia Ida Holbrook of Bel Air, MD; a sister, Myrtle Larsen of Aberdeen, MD; four grandchildren, Eileen DeMan of Abingdon, MD, Jennifer DeMan and her fiancé, Anthony Stanfield, of Edgewood, MD, Rachel Holbrook of Abingdon, MD, and Kristi Vaught of Johnson City, TN; and four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jacob, Jayden, and Danica.
Pallbearers were Thomas "Chuck" Vaught Jr., Anthony Stanfield, Ron Dailey, Harry Bauer Jr., Mike McNeely, and Randy Lambert. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, Eileen DeMan, Jennifer DeMan, Rachel Holbrook, and Kristi Vaught and his great-grandsons, Isaiah DeMan and Jacob DeMan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mountain Christian Church, 1824 Mountain Road, Joppa, MD 21085 or to Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care, 555 W. Towsontown Blvd., Towson, MD 21204.
