Ted Turner, age 79, of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed away on April 21, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Oceanside, New York, he was the son of the late Harry and Betty (Noon) Turner and husband of Cheryl (Jessen) Turner.
Ted had a larger-than-life personality that touched the lives of all who knew him. His family will dearly miss his many idiosyncrasies. Throughout his years as a teacher and as a beloved "Pop Pop," Ted had a special knack for connecting with children, often delighting them with his jokes and inventive games.
A devoted family man, Ted's love for his wife and children knew no bounds. He and Cheryl shared a passion for Disney, making regular trips to the magical kingdom a cherished tradition. Even their honeymoon included a visit to Disney, reflecting Ted's joyful spirit and love for adventure.
Ted was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly passionate about football. He savored good food, cherished his beloved pets as members of the family, and enjoyed spending leisure time watching favorite shows like "Walker Texas Ranger," "Columbo," and "Monk" with his wife.
However, Ted's greatest passion in life was music. A music major in college, he dedicated much of his career to nurturing young talents as a music teacher for junior high and elementary schools. Ted’s faith was an integral part of him, and he loved to use his gift of music to praise Jesus. He was the esteemed director of numerous church choirs, where his leadership and tenor voice inspired countless individuals. He was also a valued member of a Barber Shop Quartet, “Harmony Hotline,” and the Harbormen Barbershop Chorus, known for his melodious contributions. Ted also found immense joy in southern gospel music, and he and Cheryl eagerly attended shows and followed their favorite quartets.
In addition to his wife, Ted is survived by his son, David (Annette) Turner; daughters, Lauren Turner, Elizabeth (John) Jayne, Melissa (Jay) Fuentes, Julie Anne Renner (Cole) Williams; brother, Robert (Barbara) Turner; eleven grandchildren, John, Lydia, Mikayla, Liana, Malachi, Jadyn, Leo, Joshua, Rylee, Cameron and Daciana and great-granddaughter, Ellie.
