The Rev. Henry Edward Schaefer Jr., 77, of Bel Air, MD passed away on December 7, 2015 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Henry Edward Schaefer Sr. and Rosalee (Pitzinger) Schaefer and husband, for 49 years, of the late Ruth Schaefer. His calling for ministry began as a youth at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran in Brooklyn MD. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School, Newberry College in South Carolina and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg where he received his Masters of Divinity. He became an ordained minister and first served as Pastor of Manor Parish in Frederick County MD. He brought together a congregation as a mission developer starting Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Edgewood where he served as their pastor from 1971-2003. He was active in philanthropy with the Lions Club, involved in the PTA, and was a tireless advocate for the community. He enjoyed time with family, stamp collecting and model trains, as well as, hiking, biking, camping, boating and traveling.
The Rev. Schaefer is survived by his children, Karen Corson and her husband Dominic of Bel Air and Steven Schaefer and his wife Mary Joy of Lutherville; sisters, Betty Evans of Glen Burnie and Nancy Squires of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Christina L. Corson, Andrew D. Corson, Natalie G. Corson, Annika M. Schaefer and Christian E. Schaefer.
