T. Carroll Brown, age 93, died on March 16, 2010 at Blakehurst Health Center in Towson, MD. Born and raised in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of the late Augustus Freeborn Brown Jr. and Mary Josephine Busch Brown. A Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Loyola High School, University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Maryland Law School, to which he generously donated. A Harford County resident his whole life, he co-owned and operated his law firm since 1954, along with his brother A. Freeborn Brown III (now deceased), and later with his partners Augustus F. Brown, and Albert J.A. Young. His former partners included the Hon. Lawrence S. Lanahan Jr., the Hon. Cypert O. Whitfill, the Hon. Stephen M. Waldron, and the Hon. Maurice W. Baldwin. Mr. Brown served as a member of the Character Committee of the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners for many years, screening applicants for admission to the Bar based on their moral character and fitness. A beloved and respected figure in the Harford County legal community and in the county as a whole, the long-time Bel Air resident served on the Board of Directors of First Virginia Bank Central Maryland (formerly the Commercial & Savings Bank and now part of Branch Banking & Trust), as well as holding the positions as Secretary, Treasurer and two-term President of the Harford County Bar Association. He was also an active member of the Susquehanna Law Club. A longtime parishioner at St. Margaret Catholic Church, he attended Immaculate Conception in Towson in his later years.
Mr. Brown is survived by sisters, Harriett R. Brown of Blakehurst Center in Towson, MD and Charlotte B. Harlan of Charlestown Village in Catonsville, MD as well as ten nieces and nephews: Augustus F. Brown, J. Patrick Brown, Thomas F. Brown, Mary Louise Brown Hullana, Michael D. Brown, Teresa Brown McInerny, Edwin H.W. Harlan III, Ann Harlan Fortucci, Patricia Harlan Sanders, and Mary Margaret Harlan Reckords. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, A. Freeborn Brown III.
Friends may call at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Bel Air, MD on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 10-11:30 a.m. A Prayer Service will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. with Msgr. G. Michael Schleupner officiating. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD from 10:30-11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Msgr. G. Michael Schleupner and Rev. Michael Foppiano. Interment will be in Grove Presbyterian Cemetery, Aberdeen, MD on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.
