Susannah L. Williamson

Susannah Lyons Williamson, age 89, beloved wife of the late Charles Elvin Williamson, Ph.D. passed away on September 24, 2021, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. She was born on October 17, 1931, to the late Thomas Henry and Kathleen Ewing Lyons, the second of four siblings. She is survived by her sisters Jane Bird and Nancy Murphy, her brother Thomas Lyons and her children Cynthia Williamson (Robert Slocum), Michael Williamson (Karen), Patricia Harlow (Tim), Mary Williamson (Charles Stuart), Paul Williamson (Kelly) and James Williamson (Dawn). She is lovingly remembered by her 13 grandchildren: Christine Slocum, Bryan Slocum, Matthew Williamson, Joanna Williamson, Katelyn Shoemaker, Malia Williamson, Jennifer Parroccini, Christopher Walsh, Katerina Stuart, Meghan Stuart, James Stuart, Kylie Williamson and Briana Williamson and two great-grandchildren: Susannah Parroccini, Caroline Laney.

Born in Washington D.C., Susannah was raised in Clinton MD and Falls Church VA. She attended the College of William and Mary where she met her future husband Charles from Portsmouth, VA. They married in 1952 and lived in Edgewood MD while Susannah attended the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. They built a home in Bel Air in 1958, where she and Charles lived for the rest of their lives. She devoted herself to her large family and community, volunteering at St. Margaret’s School, Boy Scouts and the local 4H club as a leader. She taught many 4-H kids, neighborhood children, and grandchildren to cook and sew. She continued to volunteer with St Margaret’s Church through Our Daily Bread Hot Meal program in Baltimore and by knitting quilts for the infirm.

Susannah was very supportive, not only of her children, but of all her grandchildren as they grew and changed, always choosing love. She also helped neighborhood children in need of love and support. She adjusted very well to changing times and as her physician said, “She was feisty”.

Susannah was a self-taught horticulturalist and active with the local garden club while developing impressive landscaping around her house. She enjoyed all aspects of nature and was an avid birder. She enjoyed hiking, camping and traveling around the country with her family. In later years, she and Charles found new adventures in ballroom dancing and international travel. She enjoyed the companionship of her dogs her whole life, living her last few years with her little dog, Sammy.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Williamson.

The family will be hosting a mass at St Margaret's Catholic Church with cremains to be interred at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 10 AM.
