Susan Weakley Hegeman, age 84, of Bel Air, MD, died on December 20, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD after a brief illness. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Wilson and Madeline Merryman Weakley, and wife of the late Johnston N. Hegeman. Mrs. Hegeman is a graduate of Roland Park Country School and the University of Maryland. She lived on the 125-acre Maidens Bower farm in Churchville, where she raised pigs, cows, horses, chickens, and sheep. She was an advocate of 4-H, working with youth and their programs. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, reading, and watching and identifying a variety of birds on the farm. She was devoted to her family, and she also was an active and long-time member at Holy Trinity Church in Churchville, where she served for many years on the vestry and alter guild. In recent years, she also participated in the church's weekly bible study sessions. Mrs. Hegeman believed in many causes, most importantly contributing to the support of nature, animals, and land preservation.
Mrs. Hegeman is survived by her sons, Johnston N. Hegeman of Frostburg, MD, Peter R. Hegeman and Christopher W. Hegeman, both of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Pamela H. Bialozynski of Bel Air, MD; sister, Ridgaway W. Workman of Media, PA; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
