Stephen Rakas IV (Steve), age 53, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on April 22, 2025. Born in Baltimore, he was the beloved son of Glenna King and the late Stephen Rakas III.
Steve lived a life full of creativity, compassion, and joy. Music was the rhythm of his soul—an incredible drummer, he played in many bands throughout his life, bringing energy and spirit to every stage. His love of music was matched only by his deep love for family and friends. Known for his big heart, infectious laugh, and fun-loving personality, Steve touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Steve was a man of many talents. He attended culinary school, where he honed his skills and passion for cooking, and later pursued studies in web design, ultimately building a career in Information Technology. His curiosity and drive led him down many paths, and he met each new challenge with enthusiasm.
A lover of adventure, Steve traveled far and wide—visiting Hawaii, Ireland, Colorado, Florida, Nashville, and enjoying countless cruises along the way. He actually lived in Nashville for a time in the early 2000’s, played with many famous musicians while there, and was very proud that he was able to play on Main Street. His adventurous spirit and zest for life made every journey memorable.
In his younger years, Steve could often be found playing softball with his family behind their home, moments he treasured deeply. He had a profound bond with his loved ones, including the family dogs who meant the world to him.
In addition to his companion, Traci Ballard, Steve is survived by his brother, Jeffrey Rakas; aunts, Eloise Bowers (Roger Shackelford), Lorraine "Pinkie" King, Stephany Williams; cousins, Molly, Amy, Rich, Craig, Joseph; nephew, Mason; Beloved dog Finley.
