Stephanie Sodaro Esworthy

February 10, 1941 — October 27, 2024

Stephanie Sodaro Esworthy, age 83, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, she was the beloved daughter of the late Anselm and Ella (Quotadamo) Sodaro and the devoted wife of the late Joseph L. Esworthy.

Stephanie was a dedicated public servant, serving as the Director of Media & Public Relations and as the Baltimore City Film Commissioner for former Mayors William Donald Schaefer and Clarence “Du” Burns. She was the head of Baltimore City’s Bureau of Music under every city administration since Mayor Theodore R. McKeldin, and her remarkable 34-year career was deeply rooted in her early exposure to local politics. As the daughter of the State’s Attorney and Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Anselm Sodaro, Stephanie had a lifelong connection to public service and civic life.

Beyond her work, Stephanie found joy in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and in cherished moments at the beach in Ocean City. A dedicated volunteer, she loved giving her time to the Humane Society of Harford County, where she especially enjoyed walking and caring for the dogs.

Stephanie is survived by her loving daughter, Susanne (Steven) Reiter; her devoted son, Matthew (Jennifer) Esworthy; sisters, Susanne Sodaro and Christine Sodaro; her cherished grandchildren, Joe Reiter, John Reiter, Allie Esworthy, Addie Esworthy, Charlie Esworthy, and Jack Esworthy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Stephanie's memory to the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047.
