SOPHIE CARNES, 75, of Bel Air died at her daughter’s home in Bel Air on August 20, 2003. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Jenkins. Her favorite hobbies were housekeeping, playing cards, dancing and traveling. She was the last surviving family member of 19 children. She was the most caring and loving wife and mother. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Charles Evering Post, Golden Ring and the Women of the Moose.
Mrs. Carnes is survived by her husband of 57 years, Elmer J. Carnes; a daughter, Patricia S. Mattes and her husband, Frank L. Mattes of Bel Air; two grandchildren, Frank J. Mattes and his wife, Sandra of Bel Air and Michael P. Mattes and his wife, Tanya of Bel Air; six great grandchildren, Melanie Hoos, Kathleen Hoos, Mark Hoos, Frank J. Mattes, Jr., Michael E. Mattes and Alex P. Mattes, all of Bel Air; and a loving friend, Butch Stiller of Bel Air.
Pallbearers will be: Frank J. Mattes, Michael P. Mattes, Mark R. Hoos, Butch Stiller, Mark Pavlitsa and Ed Pavlitsa.
