Shirley Utz Sturgill

SHIRLEY UTZ STURGILL, age 73, of Abingdon, MD, departed this life on May 13, 2007 at Manor Care in Rossville following a long illness. Born December 26, 1933 in Westminster, MD, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Edward and Gladys Marie Abbott Utz. She attended Bel Air Elementary School and graduated from Bel Air High School in 1952. She was a long time employee of Hollander’s Home and Auto Supply store, on Main Street in Bel Air and Joe, the Motorist’s Friend in Aberdeen, which were both managed by her father. She was also employed by the U.S. Government and Standard Equipment, Inc. of Bel Air. The job she loved the most and was most successful at, was being a mother and grandmother. Mrs. Sturgill was a cherished member and tireless volunteer of Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, MD. She was known in the community for her faith, witness and friendship. Always smiling, she took every opportunity to help others see the good things in life.

Mrs. Sturgill is survived by one son, Bob D. Sturgill and his wife, Anne, of Abingdon, MD; one daughter, Robin A. and husband Michael G. Mikulan of Fair Grove, MO; three brothers, Edward L. Utz and his wife, Ann, of Bel Air, MD, Gilbert E. Utz and his wife, Bea, of Kitty Hawk, NC, and Stephen L. Utz and his wife, Andrea, of Jarvisburg, NC; two grandchildren, Joshua E. Sturgill and his wife, Becka, of Stewartstown, PA, and Sarah M. Sturgill of Abingdon, MD; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her beloved friends, Doris Cunningham and Barbara Dixon, both of Bel Air, MD.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Sturgill, Sarah Sturgill, Mark Utz, Gregory Utz, David Allan Dick Jr., and Richard Mason.
