Shirley Louise Jones

Shirley Louise Jones, age 77, of Bel Air, MD, died on January 23, 2009 at her home. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the oldest of ten siblings of the late Gilman E. Schulz Sr. and Anna Snyder Schulz, and wife of the late Lester V. Jones. During the 1950's she worked for Eastern Airlines where she loved being a flight attendant. She went on to earn her pilot's license in the late 1960's. A secretary in her husband's law firm, the Law Office of Lester V. Jones, PA, she was active in politics, mostly with the East End Democratic Club in Baltimore County, and had also served on the Judicial Nominating Commission and the Human Relations Commission in the county. A former member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, she then attended St. John the Evangelist in Hydes, MD. She had volunteered at Rosewood State Hospital and was on the Board of Directors at The Rainbow Condominium in Ocean City, MD. An avid golfer, she loved the Ravens, water skiing on the Bush River, she enjoyed bowling at Forest Hill Lanes, and adored her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones is survived by two daughters, Karen Jones, Esq. and her husband, John Blumenthal, of Baldwin, MD and Patricia Cates and husband, C. Douglas Cates, of Easley, SC; siblings, Gilman E. Schulz Jr., James G. Schulz, Anne M. Hilgartner, Donald Paul Schulz, Jeannette V. Quesenberry, Mary E. Crosswhite, and Kathleen A. Ford; and three grandchildren, Cameron Douglas Cates of Easley, SC, and Hayley and Kelsey Boyle, both of Baldwin, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Charles W. Schulz and Edward M. Schulz.
