Shirley Ann (Mosher) Lauritsen, 94, peacefully passed away on March 31, 2024, at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. Born on April 14, 1930, in Plainfield NJ she was the daughter of Byron Judson and Dorothy Harris Mosher, and sister to the late A. Harris Mosher. She graduated from the Berkley School of Secretarial Training following high school. She was married to her husband William (Bill) Kneale Lauritsen (deceased) for 52 years. She is survived by their four daughters: Karen L. Van Zandt (married: Richard Van Zandt) North Easton, MA, Barbara J. Magrath (married: Karl Repko) Cornelius, NC, Laurie L. Agnes (married: Michael J. Agnes) Bel Air, MD and Linda L. Lauritsen Perry Hall, MD. She was lovingly known as Nana to her 6 grandchildren, who adored her, and 1 great grandchild, who at 8 months happily cuddled with her.
Our mother was one of the funniest people we knew and was happiest with friends and family. Time spent with her was filled with laughter and love. She was our home base, our safe place; with heart-felt tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches and the best homemade applesauce one would ever eat. Shirley loved trying new things. She was exercising before it was fashionable and adopted healthy eating before it was a thing. Even at the age of 85 she traveled to Morrocco! She loved painting, gardening, sewing, music, opera, Broadway plays, tennis, traveling, cooking, reading, bridge, and most of all her family.
Shirley grew up in Westfield, NJ and raised all 4 of her daughters there. She was an active member of the Westfield Congregational Church, where she had many friends and was involved in numerous activities. In the 1980’s she and Bill moved to Bel Air, Md. There she joined a tennis group (avidly playing at the age of 82!), the Evergreen Garden Club of Harford County, and the Maryland State Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood. Everywhere she lived she had a garden that was the envy of many. She was a talented artist and created beautiful paintings, quilts, and prom dresses.
Volunteering at a homeless shelter in Baltimore, Shirley selflessly cooked meals and cared for many. She enjoyed attending Mountain Christian Church in Joppatowne, Md. Her fear of high bridges and going under water became the subject of many jokes; and she laughed at them all. Mom, we love you and, until we meet again, rest in peace.
