Shirley K. Gilbert

Shirley K. Gilbert, age 73, of Aberdeen, MD, passed away from a short battle of cancer on November 23, 2013 at her home surrounded by her many loved ones. Born in Springfield, IL, she was the daughter of the late Roy W. Garecht Jr. and Lorraine A. Hollingsworth Peebles.

Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harry D. Gilbert; sons, Daniel L. Gilbert and wife, Donna, of Sierra Vista, AZ and Michael J. Gilbert and wife, Fran, of Aberdeen, MD; daughters, Debra L. Greer and husband, Bruce, of Darlington, MD and Shelby D. Williams and husband, Lester, of Aberdeen, MD; brothers, Charles W. Garecht of Needles, CA and Karl D. Peebles of Ocala, FL; sister, Sherri J. Lovelady of Denver, CO; six grandsons and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Loddy R. Peebles, and sister, Donna M. Cooper.

Mrs. Gilbert enjoyed being a Professional Coast to Coast Truck Driver that spanned a 16 year period where she was certified for Hazmat and Nuclear endorsement. Mrs. Gilbert was a mother of 4 of her own but she was also known as the neighborhood MOM. She loved feeding her birds, squirrels and the deer when she vacationed at Deep Creek Lake. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, playing solitaire, puzzle books and spending hot summer days on the porch talking with family and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joey Gilbert, Brandon Taylor, Loddy Williams, Lester Williams, Eric Greer and Tyler Williams.

The family wishes to thank Upper Chesapeake Hospital, 21st Century Radiation, Kaufmann Cancer Center, Amedisys Hospice Care and McComas Funeral Home for the wonderful care they gave her.
